Folk Club Member : Big Jim Holland

Jim Holland

Born in 1938, I started performing at school in plays and Scout shows. I started singing and performing as a "Tea Chest Base" player (the best) in Skiffle Groups.

I used to cart it to gigs on my back like a rucsac on my bike.
I graduated to the guitar as I found that the girls preferred them to base and washboard players, it didn't make any difference - must be my ears (call me wingnut or dumbo).

I have my own style, best described as quality rubbish. I play what I like for my own interest and fun. Being the least musical member of my family , my sister (bless her) thinks I do quite well. My other main hobby is cycling and I have ridden Lands End to John O'Groats and was a Junior champion in my younger days - about 1956 (I think). I also like walking and camping.

I am a reluctant performer in the face of the talent that performs on a regular basis at Bingham Folk Club,.
