We've been regular attenders of
the club for well over 10 years now, with Marion being the performer
and Dave being the roadie and PA man! Marion's musical background
goes back to her early days when she first started to play the piano
- reaching Grade 8 and Diploma (ALCM) standard. In addition, she
taught herself the guitar and played various other instruments.
Marion's musical tastes are wide-ranging, and this is reflected
in the variety of songs that she performs.
Amongst the contemporary artists
that she covers, songs by Runrig feature most heavily - they are
a great band that we have seen a number of times. Other favourite
performers include Joan Baez, Amazing Blondel, Dire Straits, Abba,
The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Amy McDonald, Neil Young, Simon &
Garfunkel, etc.

| Since his
days at university when he ran a mobile disco, Dave has always had
a keen interest in the technical side of live performances. Marion
and Dave's son, Jon, is also very musical and has developed skills
on the recording side. So, the introduction of monthly PA Nights into
the club's agenda has given Dave and Jon an outlet for their interests
- and these special evenings have proved to be hugely popular. Dave
and Jon own all of their own PA equipment with a high-end Mackie mixer
and Shure condenser microphones being at the heart of the system.
The aim is to produce a very detailed and clean sound, rather than
to antagonise the local neighbourhood! Having said that, they can
call up substantial reserves of power for larger (or noisier) venues,
as well as provide lighting and discos for friends' parties. |
