It
is six years since Vera and Gary were booked as guests at the club
and they have changed little in that time. Gary is, indeed, fortunate
to have such a talented partner who plays accompaniment and solo
pieces effortlessly. Their act contained funny stories, songs and
anecdotes (including the Christmas Flasher) as well as some new
songs.
There
was only about a dozen regular club members in the audience but
many folk attended who we have never seen before so must have been
Gary and Vera devotees and they almost fell off their chairs laughing
as some of the tales unfolded.
Whilst
no one likes to give a bad review, it should be pointed out, however,
that the club had obviously paid them their fee to be entertained
and not lectured. Despite Vera trying to keep Gary to the 'Plot',
Gary still felt the need to regale us on the sad state of our country,
including immigration and free speech etc. This was somewhat patronising
as he was preaching to the converted. He also included a joke in
poor taste about the queen and a graphic description on incontinence
(definitely something to be dropped from the act).
It
was a shame, they are obviously a very talented pair and if Gary
could just restrict his patter to innuendo (which they do very well
both in song and story telling) their act would benefit greatly.
