Guests : Cloudstreet

A full house gave a warm welcome back to the highly gifted Australian duo ‘Cloudstreet’ (John Thompson & Nicole Murray), whose regular tours of the U.K. have earned them an army of fans.

They write good songs too , often celebrating the magic and fellowship found in everyday things , such as ‘The Cake Song’ , about one of Nicole’s Mum’s special recipes, and ‘The Fiddle Ship’, where they fondly remember a friend’s old violin laid on its back with rolled sheet music stuck into the sound holes to resemble ship’s masts .

Myths and legends were included in the children‘s song ‘Jenny Greenteeth’ , who drags souls down into the river to ensure the water’s continuous flow, and for their finale , ‘The Green Man’, a reminder of the life force in all things.
Of course, we were treated once more to John’s solo ‘The Camper-Van Song’, about their trials and tribulations getting about the U.K.on their first visit - a real show-stopper sung to the tune of ‘My Way’ .

There were many other great songs and stories, and throughout we heard wonderful vocal harmonies ; intertwined with lyrical flute playing from Nicole , and John’s subtle guitar and concertina playing , and all performed with great charm ,verve , and musicianship .This type of highly cultivated entertainment used to be included on top quality light entertainment television shows, sadly , those days are long gone now that the mass market is king . Today , you have to frequent folk clubs and festivals to find it , where top drawer entertainment like this still thrives.
